The Karakoram Highway (KKH) starts from Hassan Abdal (Attock) 50 KM from the federal capital Islamabad. Hazara division of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province is a major portion and populated area runs along the KKH at Haripur.

Abbottabad and Mansehra are the top ranked hill stations and renowned for a number of picnic and holiday spots in Pakistan. Thandiani, Nathiagali, Kaghan, Daddar and many other destinations are in Hazara Division. With lush green landscapes and cooler weather, this area is populated with magnificent views. Hazara Division ends at the famous bridge over the mighty Indus River at Thakot.

At Thakot, the Indus runs along the KKH throughout the way. On 45 minutes (approx.) drive the KKH enters into Swat District in NWFP. Besham is one of the famous town on KKH situated in Swat. From Besham, an adventurous travel to rest of Swat valley is possible through the Shangla pass.

As the Besham ends, it’s the start of Indus Kohistan. Indus Kohistan keeps visitors attention because of green high mountains and the Indus River. Dassu , Pattan , Juttial , Kumaila and Shatial are the populated towns in Kohistan. After Indus Kohistan, the Gilgit-Baltistan province welcomes the visitors at Chilas (Diammer).

Chilas is a dry, hot in summer and deserted area. Surrounded by dark brown and completely barren mountains, the Chilas is famous for the historic petroglyph. In addition to these 5000 years BC petroglyphs,  renowned Killer mountain Nanga Parbat (8125 Meters) is the biggest charm of KKH.

At Raikot Bridge on the Indus , Gilgit starts and continues towards Khunjerab Pass. Before entering the Gilgit City , KKH turns right and leads toward Nagar and Hunza. At Jaglot , it is the meeting point of world’s three highest mountain ranges i.e. Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush . Nagar, Hunza and up to Khunjerab is considered to be the most attractive part of KKH. With good reasons, snow covered peaks, rivers, largest glaciers of the region and entirely different geographic characteristics, this area is a real distinction.
